1999 Engine Acting Up – Badly

The year 1999 showed a great significance in the industry of automobiles. For one, this year is the year of preparation before the change of millennium – and thus new systems, new regulations and new rules were to be set out. That year, the US Congress did not decide about the new standards for upcoming vehicles. That year, it was the decision of the Environmental Protection Agency. Thus, it made the 1999 found in various vehicles then totally different from what is available now.

These engines differ from their predecessors. They have more power and more torque, but they are also heavier. Generally speaking, these engines are more fuel-efficient, both in city driving and highway driving. Some manufacturers, like the Saturn 1999, also said that this car model and make has a quieter engine than their previous cars.

On the other hand, a lot of people are still able to use their 1999 cars even if these cars or vehicles are 10 years old already. Even if a lot of people started to see that their 1999 vehicles were acting up, some still insist that their vehicles just shut off when moving slowly or when stopping, but they can be turned on again without any problems.

Other people have reported stalling while slowing down or halting, with status lights on the dashboard going on, but they were unable to ignite the engine back to life. These problems are quite common with the 1999 engine. While most people think that it’s probably because the fuel cannot circulate easily, or the engine is being choked up, other people think that this problem might connected to the car’s electronic structure. Either way, owners of 1999 Opel, Volvo, Honda and other car brands have experienced almost the same shutting down of their engines when they start to slow down. Most of them experienced this while slowing down on a red light. But since fuel 10 years ago is different from what we have now, some engines act up only on a particular fuel type, and not on others.

The best way for you to troubleshoot your engine is to try and note down which kind of fuel your engine stalls on. Some fuel types have additives and properties that are different from others, and most probably, your car just couldn’t process these elements.

But what are the other possible reasons for car stalling among these vehicles aside from fuel problems or electrical problems? It could simply be the age. Since the 1999 engine is officially 10 years old now, it may have already gone beyond its projected lifespan. Most of the common car problems are actually related to old age. Like human beings, engines only have a certain span of time before they start to show signs of tear and wear. These include stopping, shutting off or stalling. But if you think that everything is working fine, and it is still performing the same way as it was then, then try to experiment with your fuel. Take down notes and see which kinds of fuel your engine likes. Better yet, go fuel-less and switch to an electrical-powered car, which will obviously make the Environmental Protection Agency happy.
